Today I had another session with Agnes! She is a very sweet and sensitive mule who had suffered extreme neglect and is understandably weary of humans. A whole team of trainers, reiki practitioners, lovers, and healers are volunteering their time at Zeb’s Wish Sanctuary to help her heal and learn how to trust humans. She has been so weary of humans that even the slightest movement when you are near her sends her running.
Today I sat with her and meditated while I had her breakfast around me and she ate near me and never took my eyes off me as she got closer. I just continued to ground and kept my energy very small and my movements intentional. A few weeks back I had the honor of watching Agnes’ trainer Marta in action as they worked together in the round pen. It was so powerful to watch that subtle and beautiful dance of putting pressure on and then taking it off at just the right moment. Every time Agnes connected with Marta, Marta would back off, crouch down and wait for Agnes to step towards her. It was so powerful to watch her take those brave steps.
So day I worked in the same fashion but with just my energy first. Keeping my energy close to my body and then making it a touch bigger when the moment felt right, and watching how Agnes responded. She responded with curiosity, coming closer to me and then walking around. Coming close again, and then walking around.
With my friend Lisa’s help, I worked a little with Agnes in the same way as the trainer did - moving her around the round pen and then crouching down when Agnes directed her full energy on me. She walked forward in little brave steps.
It is so magical to witness her pushing herself past the walls she created for protection. To take a chance to trust us. It is so inspiring.
And it is all the more beautiful because I just received a video of Agnes being pet by Marta the trainer. Her first human touches that she has willingly accepted!
I can’t wait to see how much she has grown next week!
